The numerous sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein is just the latest in a news cycle filled with reports of workplaces where rampant harassment is present, and where most witnesses are reluctant to come forward. Fast Company points to what experts refer to as the “Bystander Effect”, which can be dangerous and foster a culture where harassment is tolerated. Fast Company outlines the steps that must be taken to break this cycle, which include training and implementation of a step by step plan an employee can follow to report workplace harassment.

2018 Cost of Living Adjustments Released by IRS

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released 2018 cost of living adjustments, which impact “dollar limits on benefits and contributions for qualified retirement plans.” The IRS also announced adjustments in other areas, including increases to the Elective Deferral Limit for 401(k) and 403(b) plans, as well as increased limits for Health Savings Accounts and Medical Flexible Spending Accounts.

Experts Say Annual Review Plus Frequent Check-ins are Key to Employee Success

While many organizations may consider shifting away from annual performance review cycles in favor of providing employees with constant, ongoing feedback, experts say that it is a combination of the two approaches that is most effective in boosting employee performance. Bloomberg BNA reports that companies who only review performance on an annual basis run the risk of missing opportunities to address and improve upon performance issues, and may lose employees who do not feel recognizes for their accomplishments.
