Katie Travia

Training Director/ Sr. HR Business Partner

Katie Travia serves as Training Director/ Sr. HR Business Partner at OperationsInc, and has over 17 years of diverse HR, coaching, curriculum design, and facilitation experience. Her areas of specialty include diversity and inclusion, leadership training, DiSC, team building, employee relations, investigations, conflict management, and career coaching.

Katie began her HR career as Assistant Vice President, Operations Program Manager at Merrill Lynch, where she  designed and executed entry-level analyst training, facilitated performance management discussions, provided coaching to underperforming analysts, and managed the group’s career services centers at some of the nation’s top universities.

She was then promoted to the role of Vice President, Campus Talent Operations, IT & Research Program Manager, where she managed the overall recruiting efforts for the operations, technology, and research divisions at Merrill Lynch. In this role, she partnered with the businesses to develop and implement effective recruitment and selection strategies, managed performance issues, compensation planning, employee development, and employee relations issues.

After spending six years with Merrill Lynch, Katie moved on to join Morgan Stanley in 2009, where she would spend five years as a critical member of the group’s recruiting and HR teams. As Vice President, Head of Wealth Management Corporate Recruiting, Katie worked to increase diversity across the organization through recruiting initiatives, which resulted in a 20% increase in diversity hiring. She also redesigned the Wealth Management Analyst Program by improving recruiting processes, increasing senior management involvement, and increasing ongoing development for analysts.

From 2011 – 2014, Katie served as a Vice President, Human Resources Generalist / Business Partner at Morgan Stanley, where she supported the Private Banking Division in Wealth Management. She provided talent management, performance management, and employee relations guidance, and led strategic initiatives surrounding compensation and workforce planning. She built and facilitated workshops on talent management and new manager training, and worked to foster workplace diversity through recruiting, promotion planning, and networking events.

Katie left Morgan Stanley to launch her own consulting firm, Career University. For three years, Katie provided human resources and career development guidance to professionals, students, learning institutions, and organizations. She designed and facilitated workshops on an extremely diverse range of topics, including manager training, performance management, objective setting, providing feedback, interviewing, and transition management.

In her role at OperationsInc, Katie specializes in strategic HR projects including workshop facilitation, organizational assessments, training program design, diversity & inclusion initiatives, harassment and discrimination investigations, one-on-one management coaching, corrective action training, and project management. Katie is certified in DiSC facilitation, Conflict Management, and Leadership Training.

She has trained thousands of client employees, developed key learning initiatives, and evaluated training programming for clients of all sizes and industry. Her training philosophies and approach are aligned in best practice for engagement and retention and are delivered in a way that is designed to drive behavioral change.

Katie has also been a long-time advocate of diversity in the workplace and harassment awareness, participating in various initiatives and development programs to educate, promote awareness, recruit, train, and develop diverse talent and promote workplace inclusion.

Katie earned a B.S. from Villanova University and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She is also an active member of the philanthropic community, serving as a board member for the Kessler Foundation, a certified peer mentor for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, and an active member of the Villanova University Alumni Scholarship Interview Program.  She resides with her family in New Jersey.
