CA Paid Family Leave Expanded
Effective January 1, 2017, the California Paid Family Leave and State Disability Insurance programs will offer eligible employees up to six weeks of paid benefits while the State Disability Program will increase the current benefit of 55 percent to 60 or 70 percent, depending on the employee’s income. Additionally, the seven-day temporary disability benefits will no longer exist as of January 1, 2018. California Governor Jerry Brown signed this new law on April 11, 2016. While it does not go into effect until January 1, 2017, employers are encouraged to review the legislation to prepare for any necessary policy changes.
