California: Bill Would Require Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity to be Included in Sexual Harassment Training

A new bill has been introduced in the California state senate that would require sexual orientation and gender identity harassment to be included in sexual harassment training. The bill states that employers who are required to provide harassment training (those with 50 or more employees) “shall also provide training on harassment based on gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation”. Additionally, employers would be required to display an additional discrimination poster “regarding transgender rights in a prominent and accessible location in the workplace”. There are several steps remaining before the new law can be passed, however employers should follow updates closely in order to remain in compliance.
