Effective November 26th: NYC Fair Workweek Laws

New York City’s new Fair Workweek laws will go into effect November 26, 2017, and the 5 bills will impact several types of NYC employers “by curtailing employers’ flexibility to establish and modify employee work schedules, among other limitations”. Included in the new legislation, fast food restaurant employers must supply “good faith estimates” of work schedules to new employees, as well as provide workers with “at least 14 days’ notice of their actual work schedules”. Additionally, retailers with 20 or more employees will no longer be allowed to schedule “on-call” shifts or adjust work schedules “within 72 hours of an employee’s scheduled shift start”.
