The report indicates that more than 43 percent of hiring managers and human resources professionals research candidates on social media sites, and employers are also utilizing employee social media accounts for workplace investigations and even for their own marketing. In the past there has been a vast gray area in how to use social media as it relates to candidate sourcing and employee investigations. However, in recent years many states have either passed or have pending legislation that restrict employers’ ability to view the private social media accounts of their employees or potential candidates.
