Federal Contractors and Mandatory Paid Sick Leave

Sick LeaveThe U.S. Department of Labor has announced that effective January 1, 2017, covered federal contractors will be required to provide employees with “up to seven days (56 hours) of paid sick leave per year”. This leave can be used for employee self-illness or to care for sick family. The rule puts forth that employees will be allowed to accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Covered federal contractors will be required to provide employees with written notification of the amount of sick leave that has been accrued “at least once per pay period or each month, whichever interval is shorter”. Those affected by this final rule should review the various requirements and timelines to ensure compliance.
