In-Person Interaction & Collaboration with Co-Workers Cited as Key Voids for COVID-19’s Newly Remote Workers

05/04/2020

Norwalk, CT. [May 4, 2020] The quick shift to remote work arrangements in response to COVID-19 has left many newly remote workers pining for office life.

OperationsInc (www.OperationsInc.com), one of the nation’s largest human resources consulting firms, surveyed over 400 remote workers throughout the country to find out what they miss about working from the office.

A whopping 79% of survey respondents cited that interaction with co-workers is what they miss most when working remotely.

“All the wonderful technology in the world cannot make up for the dynamic created when we are all in the same physical space together,” said OperationsInc CEO, David Lewis.

“While video conferencing bridges a significant gap in communication, many crave the in-person experience of an office setting to thrive professionally,” Lewis added.

Additional office life experiences remote workers miss include:

  • 68% – In-person collaboration with co-workers.
  • 44% – The act of getting up and walking to meetings, to visit co-workers, stop by the pantry, etc.
  • 33% – Better technology.
  • 17% – Eating out / lunch variety.
  • 16% – Activities done during a commute.
  • 4% – None of the above.
  • 2% – Preferred not to respond.
