PPP Looks to Have Significant Impact… Once Loan Dollars Received

04/28/2020

April Poll Shows 72% Receiving Loan Anticipate Rehiring Laid Off Workers

Norwalk, CT. [April 28, 2020] OperationsInc (www.OperationsInc.com), one of the nation’s largest human resources consulting practices, has found some promising evidence that we may soon see the recent spike in unemployment numbers decline.

A recent poll conducted by the HR consultancy found that 72 percent of organizations surveyed receiving a loan under the Paycheck Protection Program anticipate rehiring workers laid off or furloughed since February 15.

“The PPP is meant to drive recipients to rehire those they laid off, putting Americans back to work,” said OperationsInc CEO, David Lewis. “The data from our recent polling strongly suggests that we’ll see a surge in rehiring, and a flattening of the unemployment curve.”

The U.S. saw record high unemployment claims this month resulting from the continued economic impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. Data collected by OperationsInc indicates that once PPP dollars are in the hands of loan recipients, these numbers may decline.

Over 200 businesses were surveyed to collect this data, which found that:

  • 72% of survey respondents are extremely likely or somewhat likely to rehire laid off workers once receiving PPP loan dollars.
  • 15% are unsure of their rehiring plans at this time.
  • 8% are unlikely to rehire laid off workers.
  • 5% preferred not to answer.

The survey was launched as part of OperationsInc’s ongoing free webinar series, “COVID-19: Your HR Questions Answered”. Companies can register to participate in this educational series by visiting https://operationsinc.com/webinars/covid-19-webinars/.
