Survey Shows Nearly Half of Local Businesses Conducted Layoffs & Implemented Salary Freezes in 2009

REASON FOR OPTIMISM THOUGH AS 40% OF FIRMS PLAN TO HIRE IN Q1 2010

 

Stamford, CT. [December 10, 2009] It is with great excitement that human resources consulting firm, OperationsInc (OI) and management consulting firm, Performance-Solutions-Group, Inc. (PSG), announce the results of their Trends in Benefits and the Workplace Survey — part of a series of HR-centric surveys relating to today’s workforce. 144 organizations in the Fairfield / NY Metro Area participated in this survey which focused on how businesses are presently reacting to the challenging economic climate & what their hiring plans are as we look to 2010.

The key findings from our survey:

  • In 2009 nearly 45% of the firms surveyed conducted a layoff
  • The same percentage (45%) implemented some type of a salary freeze
  • 40% of those surveyed expect to hire new employees in q1 2010
